Guets Staying in a Hotel at Cozumel

For Those Coming From Playa del Carmen or the Cancún Airport

Take a 40-minute ferry ride to get in Cozumel; There are two ferry companies and they schedule multiple departures along the day, starting 6:45 AM until 11:00 PM. The pier is located right in the heart of the city next to The Fundadores park.

If you arrive at Cancun airport, you’ll have to get to Playa del Carmen before than Cozumel, and, for that, there are 3 options.

  1. Likely the best way to go to Playa del Carmen is taking a bus right from the Cancun Airport. Find the "ADO" stand (ADO is the name of the bus company name), there is a ticket stand in every one of the 3 airport terminals, so you don’t need to walk too long to find the closest one, especially if you carry a large luggage. Typically, the stands are next to the taxi stands. The ADO buses offer departures every 30-45 minutes to Playa del Carmen. The seats are limited to 35 passengers per coach. All buses are very comfortable with A/C. The non-stop ride last about 30 minutes.
  2. The colectivo is another option, cheaper and smaller, this van with A/C also will do the job but will stop few times along the way to drop and take new clients. This is not a good option if you are carrying large luggage.
  3. The taxi is more expensive but if you need to arrive before the last ferry leaves to Cozumel or just want a private transportation, it may be the right option for you.

Arriving at the Cozumel Airport

It is a small airport, but it is by far the best way to get here. If you pay for an all-inclusive package, your ground transportation should be included. If you arrive by yourself, you may choose between taking a taxi or renting a car, knowing that taxi is the only way to move around the island.

If you Arrive on a Private Yacht

For the lucky people who are traveling on a private boat (sailboat or yacht), depending on the size, you can stay at the local marina or anchor on the north side of the downtown/fiscal pier. Use channels 06 or 16 to get in touch with the Harbor Master for directions and related information.
